I have been playing water polo for over 7 years. As a goalie, I have what is considered the hardest job in the pool. Not only do I lead my team, but I am the protector of the cage. Though I am the last line of defense, I am the most important. I play at a very competitive level, I'm both a state and division goalie. When the rest of my team is defeated, it's my job to pick them back up and bring us towards success. My word even overrides my coaches, as I help my team thrive.
With lots of experience already as a leader, being a goalie and even a coach to young athletes, I was selected as my high school team captain. I have been in a leadership position since freshman year, so falling into place as captain was natural. I focus on building a well bonded team with a strong spirit. I recruit new athletes during the off season, and set up events to promote our team. Our community is essential, so my job is to make it even stronger.
Just as long as I've been playing water polo, I've also been swimming competitively. I am varsity on my schools swim team and have been for 3 years. As a swimmer I've competed in post season events such as king county, and have put a lot of energy into helping the new girls on the team find their place.
Along with sports, I am also a part of my high school radio. I have a show/podcast called The World Through Words, which can be found on places like Spotify and Amazon Music. It airs on 889 The Bridge on Sundays at 10 AM PST. This summer I had the opportunity to go to Seafair and conduct interviews with hydroplane drivers and even charity organizations like the Seattle Pirates. I've conducted many interviews elsewhere as well, with war protestors, scientists, and journalists.
Not only do I have a show on the radio, but I've also written, recorded, and produced my own songs to go on air. I am self-taught in guitar, ukulele, and banjo. I also play the tuba! As a writer, coming up with lyrics is one of my favorite ways to express myself. With my various instruments I can compose melodies to accompany my voice. I have written well over 50 songs, varying in style and content.
My friends like to describe me as a bit of a foodie. The concept of flavors, balancing them, and the science behind food has always amazed me. Growing up with a grandma who also happened to be a psychologist of taste, gave me a huge amount of insight into food and how we perceive it. After I learned the basics, I discovered parts of recipes could be change and adapted into whole new creations.
